Here is how it all started and came to fruition:

Throwing Shapes

By Matthew, 10th March 2008.

I have heard Tai Chi and Qigong referred to as many things but a good friend of mine described it as "throwing shapes".  It made me laugh, mainly because it was roughly true (learning the moves is essentially choreography of movement and finding body positions) and it threw up images in my mind of making shapes from plasticine like Morph (you remember him?!).  Being free and fluid like Morph is what Tai Chi is, in part, all about- having that flexibility of mind, body and awareness trained and honed until we become more yielding and soft.  It is this ability to yield and become fluid that makes Tai Chi so nice, so pleasurable, so good to experience.  These qualities also help us to accept change, to embrace challenge and to develop our courage.

My friend (he is called Martin by the way) who "throws shapes" was with me in Italy at The Hill That Breathes and very kindly sat down and did some brainstorming on my behalf.  He wanted to envision the future for a modern Tai Chi company.  He is the founder of some pioneering advertising agencies so he knew what he was talking about…

After his initial sketches and mind mapping we sat down together in the Sala (dining room at The Hill) and he explained the concept and ideas of something he named "Tai Chi Nation" - something unique and fundamentally relevant, contemporary and ethical.

It made me think a lot, it scared me, yet it made me want to start work there and then. After some thought and reflection though, I decided to go for it.

Now it is here...blimey.
